On Friday October 30 from 12-1pm ET, New America’s Political Reform program, Democracy Notes, and Campus Compact will host a webinar, exploring how community colleges are charting the future of American civic engagement.

Many community colleges were founded to prepare students for both their careers and their civic roles in U.S. democracy. Today, these schools are best known for their essential, open-access education opportunities. But they also act as vital platforms for civic learning, nonpartisan engagement, and innovative participatory experiments across our country.

Over the last year, New America’s Political Reform program has produced several case studies and a white paper – highlighting how schools are carrying out their civic missions and recommending strategies for expanding these initiatives, even amid financial constraints and political polarization.

During this webinar, we will share our findings and hear from community college administrators, students, and experts who are leading civic efforts in their institutions. Our panel will also discuss how their initiatives might evolve and provide guidance to administrators and funders.

Join us to hear from leaders at the forefront at this work – and to explore what their experiences can teach us about building a stronger and more participatory democracy.
